Two Greek cleaning ladies survived trapped inside a broken lift for two days, the pair survived on cough drops and aspirins until they were rescued.
Bertha Apothecata and her mother, Betty Domestico, entered the lift in an empty building in Athens on December 22. After the lift doors closed, the women discovered they were stuck on the first floor of the two-story building.
“I was close to thinking I was going to die,” Bertha said, “but at least my sore throat has cleared up.”
Mr Apothecata stated that he was looking forward to being reunited with his wife and sharing the marital bed once more.
“After all those aspirins there’s no way she’s going to have a headache tonight!” he said gleefully.
“For God’s sake, let me back in the lift!” begged Mrs Apothecata.
